Add a toolbar button, which allows you to link any document to an action, project or calendar item.

This would also be implemented if this Idea (several toolbar actions, { Link } would get implemented

Hi Jan, I do this now by either creating a doclink (if it's a Notes document) or shortcut (if it's a file accessible in Windows explorer) and just pasting the link in the action, project or calendar. You can create the doclink by right-clicking on any Notes document (as they are officially called) e.g. action in another project, and selecting "Copy as Document link". Then just go ahead and paste it where you want to reference it.

Hope this works for you and gets your this functionality sooner rather than later!

Somehow this is a solution, but exactly the kind what I don't want: eProductovity is a great product, because it doesn't get in my way of doing things (most of the time :-). "Linking between things" is IMO one of the most powerful concepts in eProductivity, because I can organize and keep all the information for completing the task together and because I can do that with ease: drag an email and it becomes a task or is linked to an existing action.

Doing it the hard way defeats this principles: first I have to do a lot more clicks to get it, it uses different concepts (drag email and I get a dialog or the new task vs. searching for the task in a different UI and opening it) and secondly, it becomes a small item in an action-Description, not something, which is linked and therefore "big" and descriptive in the UI.

I want a click and get a new Task with some fields filled in or I want to click and get the same dialog to link it to an action/project as I get when I drag an email to the "link to action" target.

Jan,
Agreed. it's very inefficient (counter to the spirit & intent of GTD). here's my thoughts on drag & drop behavior:

1. from an Email: grabbing & dropping the attachment onto any left pane item (projects, tasks) opens existing projects or tasks
2. launches a dialog box that says "select existing project task OR click here to create new project or task imbedding this attachment
3. create 4 right-mouse-click menu items for the attachment: ....add to existing project ....add to existing task .....add to existing calendar entry. ....create new project, task or calendar imbedding this attachment

What if my idea isn't new?

One worry that some users have is that they will post an idea which is a duplicate of an existing idea, or which asks for functionality which is already in eProductivity. No problem! We'll combine ideas if necessary, and we are happy to post links, samples and guidance to existing functionality.
